Well, we made it through the city of New York, and we're now settled in at Lido Beach on Long Island. We thought we'd make it easy on ourselves, and drive in on a Sunday. Not the best idea, as it turns out. Sunday is an intense day for road repair (in order to avoid the weekday rush hours), and the Brooklyn/Queens Crosstown Expressway was narrowed to a single lane in spots. On the positive side, it's not too easy to have a serious collision when you're covering less than 50 miles in a three hour time period! Even when you're pulling an automobile behind a 37' motorhome!
Not too much to say at this point. We have a trip into Manhattan planned tomorrow, and we'll be staying with our daughter Lisa for a couple of nights. She has tickets for all of us to see 'In the Heights', which won the Tony for best musical last night. Other than that, we'll just do some sightseeing. We always enjoy taking the Staten Island Ferry past the Statue of Liberty; and of course, this time we'll be missing the World Trade Center when we go down to the Battery to catch the ferry.
Tonight Donna's cousin Kristine and her husband Kevin are coming over for dinner. They live only about 10 minutes from where we're staying.
We are writing this at a Starbucks in Long Beach, as the rv park has no internet. There'll be more later after we've had a chance to play 'tourist' for a few days, and as soon as we again can access the internet. Until then, we have a bit of a teaser that Donna put together today. Say hi to Lisa for us. Enjoying following you on your trip. Love to read your blog, (diary), and see the pictures. You both should put this together into a book when you are done. I am putting all of this together in a loose leaf binder.
Remember the books that my friend Chuck Dodd wrote after his eight week trip across the ountry on a bike from Charleston, South Carolina to Rio Vista, California? Those books, entitled "Spokes and Jokes Across the USA" and "Fireflies and Headwinds", were my favorite travel books until now but this is building up to be even better. Do you think I might be biased?
Yesterday, on Father's Day, I was thinking how proud our father and mother would be of you guys and how Dad must be reading every word and looking at every picture very intensely. He and Mom are probably discussing it right now up there in Heaven.
I was particularly happy that you were able to visit our cousin Stephen and his wife in Baltimore this past week. I am sure that you must have talked a lot about both your fathers and their spouses. Very timely right before Father's Day !
I better sign off now, otherwise this will become a book. Us Rothe's sure like to talk, don't we?

You drove the Bounder in Queens!! We are Bounder Across America Groupies.We really like your haircut, Donna. Looks good. Amy is also an Evan fan. She says he should do weather reports on t.v. because he's so good at the map. He's cuter than all the other guys who do that. We really enjoyed the pics of Erin with you on a hot DC day in the sculpture garden. We all just saw a great movie you ought to see about old folks in Northampton singing(Young at Heart). It put us all in a good mood.Amy, Susan and I look forward to having "fun to do" times together, but watch out, cuz we get awfully silly. Hope you liked the play with Lisa.
